Language can only fulfill its purpose if the concepts are unambiguously defined in terms. This is why there is a great need to develop glossaries in Sign Languages in every field of knowledge. This Masters’ work “Design and Development of a Bilingual Multimedia Educational Tool for Teaching Chemistry Concepts to Deaf Students in Greek Sign Language”, has been the first multimedia educational tool in Europe that included also the first development of a chemistry terminology in a Sign Language (GSL) (Panselina, 2001). During the process of developing new terms, emphasis was placed on adhering to scientific and linguistic rules and avoiding arbitrary changes in the Greek Sign Language. The terminology has been developed by a group consisting of scientists , chemistry and GSL teachers, linguists, deaf students, native signers. It has been approved as an official educational tool by the Greek Ministry of Education. The work refers to the designing and development of the adequate terminology in GSL in order to meet the needs of teaching chemistry to deaf students in High School and delivered via CD-ROM and the WWW (https://prosvasimo.iep.edu.gr/el) (ΧΗΜΕΙΑ ΜΕ ΝΟΗΜΑ, Panselina 2006). As a result of this work, signs of more than 200 chemistry terms have been developed and will be presented thoroughly in the Summit.
