This presentation explores the integration of digital exams with video clips for students using British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary language. The SSC BSL Glossary team has developed STEM exam drafts for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), allowing students to choose between reading questions in English or accessing BSL-translated content through videos.

The study focuses on a pilot programme, comparing the experiences of students who completed traditional paper exams using interpreters with those embracing the digital format. Insights gathered aim to understand the effectiveness and reception of the digital exam paradigm in comparison to the traditional method with interpreters.

Additionally, new pilot samples across various subjects demonstrate SQA’s commitment to modernising their examination system. Challenges in translating English questions to BSL are addressed, emphasising the need to prevent unintentional answer disclosure.

This presentation contributes to the discourse on inclusive assessment practices, providing insights into the successes and challenges of implementing digital exams with BSL video clips in the SQA assessment framework.
