The Silent Herald was a publication of the Chicago Mission for the Deaf, which was established in 1893 with the efforts of Philip Hasenstab, a Deaf minister who managed the organization until 1941; more information can be found in Chapter 9 of the Deaf History Reader (2007), written by Kent Olney and edited by John Vickrey Van Cleve.
