The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD) was founded in 1820, making it one of the oldest schools for the deaf in the United States. Throughout its history it has operated at different locations in the Philadelphia area, and it is currently located in the Germantown section.

This digitized collection contains the applications of potential students to PSD. The applications range from 1824 to 1938. An index to the applicant names can be found here. The digitization of the PSD applications is an ongoing project. Each month we will post a new decade of PSD applications, so be sure to check back often!

The PSD applications are but a small section of a much larger collection of the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (over 300 boxes). The finding aid to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf records can be found here.
