Cadwallader Lincoln Washburn, a drypoint etcher, world traveler, and Gallaudet alumnus, was born in 1866 in Minnesota. He graduated from the modern-day Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and then attended what is now known as Gallaudet University, graduating in 1890 with his BA degree. He then attended art school and took private art lessons. During his life, Cadwallader traveled the world, taking on jobs such as a war correspondent in addition to selling his etchings. He eventually settled down in Maine and married Margaret Ohrt. Washburn lived until the age of 99, dying in 1965.
