Abstract

No comprehensive history of Gallaudet University has been published since 1985. Although more recent works have focused on specific events since that time, it has been nearly 30 years since Gallaudet’s history has been examined as a whole. No book about Gallaudet’s history has ever been created for a general, non-academic audience, in an accessible, “coffee table” style. This book uses that format to present the first 16 years of the college’s existence with sections on Architecture, Academics, Student Life, and Notable People. It is the first chapter of a future publication that will honor the institution’s sesquicentennial anniversary.
