Abstract

This paper compares the runaways of the past, particularly the 1960s and 1970s to the runaways of today (1984). The runaways of the past ran away from middle-class values and ideas into a utopia. In contrast, the runaways of today are simply running from something and not towards anything. As if the act of running away will solve their problems. This paper looks at the literature dealing with runaway behaviors including demographics of runaways, reasons for departure, familial support, and treatments available.
