Paul Singleton begins the press conference by saying the media are allowed to ask questions and get answers from two different groups. One group is national organizations serving the deaf community and the other group is the Gallaudet University Council made up of Gallaudet faculty, staff, and students. He says James Tucker will introduce everyone and moderate questions for the portion focusing on national and state organization leaders. Those included are: Larry Newman (NAD), Charles Giansanti (NFSD), Terry Nelligan (Alexander Graham Bell Society), Sue Phillipp (Mass. State Assn. of the Deaf), Robert Davilla (CEASD), Jackie Mendelsohn (ASDC) (not present), Evan Kemp (Commissioner of EEOC) (not present), Dr. Richard Stefan (CAID), Alfred Sonnenstrahl (TDI), Todd Ranzuelli (RID), Warner St. John (Fla. Assn. of the Deaf), Margaret Bibrum (DeafPride), Ronald Sutcliffe (AAAD). Gary Olsen is introduced to speak briefly. He says they will not recognize the actions of the Board of Trustees as long as Jane Spilman is chair. Each of the representative of organizations gives a brief speech on behalf of their organization showing support of the protests.
