Description
Twenty years ago, the need for the Czech Sign Language technical terms started the process of the first and so far the only dictionary of the Czech Sign Language that contains definitions and example usage DICTIO. The creation of technical terms until that time was more or less in the format of ad hoc characters, which never saw a wider spread. Over a long series of years, around 2,000 new professional terms were created on our soil, and another thousand are created with our participation outside MU as well. When enriching the ČZJ with new signs, we tried different approaches: adoptions, collocations, enriching existing signs with new meanings or deriving them. Only a long time shows that only some approaches are functional and new signs are accepted by the deaf community. However, the basis is always the same. Crucial for getting a concept of sign to be created is a detailed explanation of the term supported by visual illustrations.
